Schools sessions
As part of a new initiative, I was commissioned to develop and present interactive workshops aimed at KS 2-3 at two challenging sites with no education space. Sessions at Richmond Castle were themed on women's life in a medieval castle whereas at Eltham Palace the sessions were on Tudor Health and Hygiene. I am currently developing full-day Elizabethan sessions for pre-booked school groups with the National Trust.
I have also presented talks and workshops to several Young Archaeologists' clubs (ages 8-15) and history clubs on medieval medicine, and have co-run a day's workshop on the chemistry of medieval painting for a class of 'gifted and talented' Year 7 students at a school in Essex.
Workshops are usually designed as costumed presentations with props and some hands-on activity and role play. The sessions aim to provoke lateral thinking and application of ideas, and target different learning styles in order to involve all students.
Most recently I designed and delivered sessions on Roman Cosmetics and Perfumes for Hatfield Museums, and I am currently developing 'Life as an East End Housewife during the Blitz' for the Museum in Docklands. I also deliver literacy sessions on Roman Myths at the Museum of London.
